Potentiality of the Cultural LinguisticsApproach to The Dream of the Red Chamber As it was mentioned in the introduction part, The Dream of the Red Chamber has been widely studied for centuries, but not until the 1990s that scholars started to alter their attentions from aesthetic and literary studies to the linguistic approach. Why the cultural linguistics approach to The Dream of Red Chamber is essential? In the first place, from the linguistics perspective, ‘cultural linguistics is a multidisciplinary area of research that explores the relationship between language, culture, and conceptualization’ (Palmer, 1996). This framework is one that may be best described as cultural cognition and language in that it proposed a view of cognition that has life at the level of culture, under the concept of culturalcognition.
