(IAAS MSU, Russia) Rhetoric of Yang Xiong as a Theory of Literature The work is devoted to proving that Yang Xiong is the creator of the first explicit rhetoric as a theory of literature in China. The main provisions of this rhetoric are expounded on the basis of the study of his treatise "Exemplary Speeches" Fayan. Literature is understood by Yang Xiong very widely, it covers all the main genres and types of writing that was formed by that time. A special role in it is given to the canonical literature, which combines the features of the canon and classics. Yang Xiong gives poetry and prose rhetorical character, makes a functional distinction between oral and written speech, but it is with the text that binds the creative act, making the writing primary in relation to the oral presentation. He pays special attention to the aesthetic side of the ancient Chinese litereture. Yang Xiong also gives a rationalistic interpretation of divine inspiration, examines the phenomenon of creativity and develops the category of individual authorship. В Древнем Китае риторика как теория поэзии и прозы  1 прошла долгий путь развития от латентной к эксплицитной форме с вычленением из нее поэтики.
