The paper highlights such artistic innovations as authors treatment of historical facts and heroes, the epos language and composition, complex amalgamation of popular fiction and real historical and geographical documents in the text and its new genre as travelogues. The comparison of the epics image of Zheng He and da Gama expeditions with its representation in historical chronicles proves that both epics suggested ambiguous evaluations of voyages. It was based on glorifying the nation and the king, technical innovations and trade, greatness of peoples mind in conquering the oceans/ They combined the hymn to the past and the critic to modernity, thus becoming through centuries the symbol of patriotic perception.
